UC San Diego Health/Adult Cystic Fibrosis Program
Christine Decker-Hughes, RN, BSN, IBCLC is one of the nurse coordinators for the Adult Cystic Fibrosis Program at UC San Diego Health and a telephonic resource nurse for Rady Children's Hospital, San Diego. Christine is a a registered nurse with more than 20 years of experience in many pediatric and adult specialty areas. She received her Bachelor degree in Nursing from Point Loma Nazarene University and will start a Doctorate degree in Nursing program there in Fall 2023. She has been an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant since 2010, which is the highest designation in the lactation specialty. She trained in lactation at the University of California, San Diego Extension Program and did an interned at Kaiser Permanente. She has always had a special interest in lactation and women’s health and with the advent of highly effective modulator therapy (HEMT), she is now getting to use this expertise in her practice as a CF nurse! This is very special and exciting, considering that only a decade ago, many people with cystic fibrosis did not think having a family of their own would be possible. There is a motto in the lactation world that says, “You do the best you can with the information that you have.” Let us collectively develop resources for our mothers with cystic fibrosis to provide the support and knowledge needed to do their best! When not working, Christine can be found at the football or baseball fields watching her sons play or at the beach enjoying the warm, sunny California weather.
