University of Kansas Health System
Michelle Simonsen received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from The University of Kansas in 2010. After her pharmacy studies, she completed a PGY1 pharmacy practice residency at The University of Kansas Health System in Kansas City, KS. She stayed on after residency and spent five years working in pediatrics/PICU/NICU where she was first introduced to caring for pediatric CF patients during hospital admissions. In 2016, she took the opportunity to pilot ambulatory pharmacy services in the adult and pediatric CF care centers at The University of Kansas. This role has expanded since 2016, in part by grant funding from the CFF, now with two pharmacists supporting nearly 400 adult and pediatric patients. In her role, Michelle regularly precepts PGY1 residents and PGY2 ambulatory care residents on rotation and in research. Her biggest research interests include quality improvement initiatives and advocating for enhanced pharmacist and pharmacy services support for CF patients and care teams.
